In the midsummer with the singing of cicadas,the fragrance of mugwort reminded me that today is another fifth day of the fifth
month according to the Chinese calendar, and we call it the Dragon Boat Festival. It’s one of the most solemn traditional festivals in China.
People will pray for the peace and health of their families and friends on this day! For thousands of years, Eating Zongzi and racing dragon
boats on this festival have been known!
Today our MIND team also prepared some games and competitions to spend this meaningful day.
We decorated the event hall with colorful balloons and beautiful decals in the shape of rice dumplings, everywhere is full of the atmosphere of festival!
And prepared various materials for the next games and competitions:
Bamboo tube and arrows for pot-throwing game;
Bamboo leaves, glutinous rice, bacon and adzuki beans used to make the rice dumplings;
Paint and brushes for painting the fan;
Needle, fabric and colorful thread for purse embroidery and also have exquisite gift for our champions!
When everything was ready,we start our first game – throwing pot in our anticipation.
Throwing pot is a throwing game played by ancient scholar officials at banquets, and it is also a kind of etiquette. It was popular in the Warring States period,
especially in the Tang Dynasty. This game need to throw an arrow into the pot. If you hit more, you will win.
The sun is shining, we can hardly wait and all of us seem to have special skills. We saw our colleague holding arrows, walking up to the red line calmly, aiming at
the mouth of the pot, throwing the arrow into the tube like a rocket, Simply perfect! Everyone cheered for him. Of course, there are also has lost and chagrined
from other colleagues… In the blink of an eye, our pot-throwing game ended in such a warm atmosphere.
Next, our chef will teach us how to make rice dumplings.
First of all, fold the Bamboo leaves into a cone, fill them with glutinous rice, bacon and adzuki beans, then wrap it layer by layer with leaves, and bind them tightly
with white thread, such a chubby rice dumpling is wrapped. But To do is always difficult than to plan. Although everyone was in a spin, But we all enjoy the process
and help each other, and everyone with a happy smile!
Finally, everyone will show their painting and purse embroidery. On the fans, some drew dragon boats, some painted cute rice dumplings, and some wrote their blessings…;
For purse embroidery, We made “persimmon” purses of various colors—which representing good luck and wish everything goes well; and “pear” purses—which representing
peace and joy; in the purses, we put cotton, spices and mugwort leaves, then sewed them up with needles, although our work rough, but it’s represents our best wishes!
At the end of the event, we’re got exquisite gifts for our champions! We spent a meaningful and happy day in this festival!
